Tonight we reviewed HelloFresh's Seared Steak with Demi Reduction. My husband was excited to try this one--he is always on board for steak and potatoes! This meal also came with garlic mashed potatoes and roasted carrots.
This one was simple to prepare, and the whole meal came together in about 30-40 minutes. I don't think I did the best job with the potatoes--they were just OK. Think I didn't have the right amount of liquid added--will have to work on that next time. The carrots were also just OK, but hard to make roasted carrots taste more than average to me. The cut of meat was a little tough, but the sauce was very good and helped make it more flavorful. The sauce was definitely my son's favorite part--he rated this meal the highest yet! Ratings: Me: 7.5 Husband: 8 (he is partial to dishes with red meat) Son: 9 (my daughter wasn't home for dinner tonight) Need a HelloFresh coupon? Try VSTEINA (new customers) on the HelloFresh site!

Tonight we reviewed the Yucatan Citrus Chicken Bowls with Poblano, Smoky Red Pepper Crema & Pickled Onion by HelloFresh. This one was relatively quick and easy to prepare. I liked the pickled onion, and my son's favorite part was the crema (he always loves crema). We had a small amount of leftovers for lunch.
There is another HelloFresh southwestern-themed chicken and rice bowl that is similar to this one, and my daughter and I both liked that one a little better. This one rated about average on our scale of HelloFresh reviews. Very good, but not OUTSTANDING. Ratings: Me: 7.5 Husband: 7.5 Daughter: 8 Son: 8 Need a HelloFresh coupon? Try VSTEINA (new customers) on the HelloFresh site! Tonight we tried HelloFresh's Brown Sugar Bourbon Steak with Creamy Dijon Pan Sauce, Scallion Mashed Potatoes & Roasted Brussels Sprouts. This one used some McCormick Grill Mates Brown Sugar Bourbon Seasoning--we've had a container of this in our pantry for a little while and have never tried it until tonight. My husband and I both really liked it, and I'll definitely need to experiment with this seasoning in the future--I think it would be great on grilled steaks.
I was responsible for cooking this one tonight, and I let the Brussels Sprouts cook for too long--so that part of the meal was just so-so. The mashed potatoes were just OK. But, my husband and I agreed that the sauce was the star of the show! The steak had decent flavor, but the sauce really elevated it--I'm definitely going to have to try to recreate it sometime. This one was easy to prepare, and the whole meal took about 30 minutes to make. Overall ratings: Me: 8 Husband: 8 Daughter: 7.5 (even though she is not a Brussels Sprouts fan) Son: 6 (he was the only one who did not love the sauce--sometimes that's not his thing) Need a HelloFresh coupon? These tasted somewhat similar to the Korean Beef Bibimbap bowls--one of our favorites! Seems like many of the HelloFresh recipes we order end up being rice bowls of some sort--they are almost always good.
My daughter was in charge of making this one, and she said it was very easy (it's rated as a Level 1). The bowls came with carrots, pickled cucumber & sriracha crema (yum!). The pickled cucumber was a nice addition. Start to finish, it took about 30 minutes. Overall, we all enjoyed this one, and we would get it again. Our Ratings: Me: 7.5 Husband: 7.5 Daughter: 8 Son: 8 Need a HelloFresh coupon? Try VSTEINA (new customers) on the HelloFresh site! Of all of our HelloFresh reviews, this one is my favorite so far!
My 16-year-old was in charge of dinner tonight. She made the HelloFresh Middle Eastern Steak & Rice Pilaf Bowls--and they were delicious! I am always partial to Middle Eastern cuisine, and I had high hopes for this meal. It did not disappoint! In fact, personally, I thought this was my favorite dish yet! I asked how difficult this one was to prepare, and she said there was a lot going on at once. (Looked fairly easy to me--but the kitchen was a disaster by the time she finished!) We all loved the Tzatziki sauce--the perfect complement to the steak and roasted veggies! Tzatziki sauce always manages to make a dish taste fresh and delicious, in my opinion. Overall, this one got one of our higher ratings--we all agreed it was at least an 8.75! I rate it a 9--at a minimum! I would definitely order this one again--it's a keeper! (Seriously, give it a try!) I'm also going to try and make this myself sometime--it is that good! My son had this at a friend's house a few months ago, and has been requesting it ever since. Finally, it was on the menu this week, and it did not disappoint!
I've been having my teenagers take turns making the HelloFresh meals, and my son was in charge of this one. He was pretty excited for us to try this, and the directions were easy for him to follow. The prep time on this one said 10 minutes, although it took him more than twice that long. (He's still slow to peel and chop!) My only complaint was that my delivery was missing the Panko bread crumbs. We ended up improvising and using some regular bread crumbs in the panty, which worked out fine. This meal was pretty filling, and it made quite a bit. We had enough left over for a lunch or two. Overall, we agreed that this one rates at least an 8.5 (possibly a 9, according to my son!). Very kid friendly, with a comfort-food vibe. Give it a try! Here's a link to the Firecracker Meatballs recipe on the HelloFresh site, if you want to make it yourself--my son has already requested that we do that soon! https://www.hellofresh.com/recipes/firecracker-meatballs-5f31854afa44aa0ad05fbec3?q=firecracker+meatballs |
