It's Friday! A 3-day weekend!! And to make things even better, my husband cooked dinner tonight!
I've said this before, but I typically order the "Calorie Smart" HelloFresh meals. I guess it's years of health-conscious cooking, but I have a hard time getting excited about cooking high-calorie meals unless it's a special occasion or something. On the other hand, my son is naturally thin and I am always trying to get him to eat more and put on a few pounds. He's an active kid, and it always seems like he should be eating more. My husband and I were talking about it the other day, thinking about meals that he likes, and we decided to try one of the HelloFresh burger meals (almost 1100 calories in this meal!). There is usually one burger meal on the menu every week, and I know this is something he'll eat without complaint.
So, my husband made dinner for us tonight, and put this one together. He likes his burgers on the grill, so he followed the recipe, except he didn't cook these in the skillet, as instructed. His main comment on this one was that when he flipped the burgers, almost all of the cheese oozed out of the middle. Not sure if that had anything to do with the grill? In any event, something to watch. The potatoes turned out well and had good flavor, and the sauce was good. The cooked tomatoes were a nice touch (something I'll do in the future--not sure why I've only ever eaten them raw on burgers--gives them great flavor!). My husband said he thought these would have been great if the cheese didn't slip off! I only ate half (my compromise for the higher calories--although it was very filling and I didn't want more than that, anyway).
Would we order this again? Probably not, but not because it wasn't good--it's just that we felt like we could make a burger just as good on our own, without a lot of extra hassle. Here's the recipe--I think it could easily be made on your own for less money. But, order it through HelloFresh if you want things extra easy!
Son: 7 (although he ate his without tomato and very light on the sauce--not exactly as intended)
